Lighting the Way – Yerburys

From the other side of the camera by Coventry Wedding Photographer Robert Nemwan

Now there is a reason we all become photographers, we like; art, social interaction and to feel in control of what we do, allowing us make beautiful images.

But being behind the camera although we feel in control do we really know what is going on, like in all professions without experiencing it from all angles do we have a true understanding of what we are doing.

This for me is how the post begins,

Now I can’t take credit for the image below, lighting or posing, but I can take credit for the model (if you hadn’t guessed I am the model)

 Fresenel Photos

The photograph was taken by a photographer friend on my camera during a Lighting Workshop at the SWPP’s convention in London last week. As obviously I’d be very skilled if I could do this myself aswell as posing.

So how did I end up on the other side of the camera?

Simply I was asked by Trevor & Faye Yerbury, and as you have now gathered it was one of their seminars. Like all their seminars I would recommend it to any photographer, and the reason I would do this is because their session are about you and your business in photography and not what they can sell you from their collection.

So what did I gain from being the model?

Firstly you don’t need a model to take great pictures, most courses rely upon models, well in this case it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Secondly, the things you notice as a model for professional photographer is different to watching them in action, the placing of hands, rather than watching a pose you feel it which you retain better in your memory,

The list of things that make it a different experience could go on, but to find the true feeling I would suggest being a model for another photographer for a short period of time.

Now onto the image itself, for those that know me, it is something I have been trying to produce for the past year or so, I’ve tried table lamps, street lights, car headlamps, softboxes, flashguns, all on numerous occasions,  but this image was with Bowens Fresnel light (like anyone who has seen it, it is on my wish list)

The image above has been slightly edited but not greatly (didn’t need it), but the best place to see these images are on Faye Yerbury’s facebook page and from later shoots from the convention of other models on www.yerburystudio.com

I would like to thank Trevor and Faye for the opportunity to model for them and the inspiration they give to a large majority of photographers.

Rob
